FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How to use arm extenders on a massage table?

Most massage therapists know that the wider the table, the more comfortable the client. Massage table arm extenders are an economical way to increase your table’s width, and in turn, client’s comfort. Most extenders fit snugly against the side of the massage table and are secured with multiple adjustable straps above and one or more straps below the table.

Other types of arm rests, such as an arm shelf or hanging sling or hammock, fit securely under the face cradle for added client comfort in the prone position.

What are the different types of arm rests for a massage table?

Massage table arm rests vary in style and budget. Many luxury tables have an optional accessory package including arm rests that function and move with the table and your client as necessary. More economical versions include bolster arm extensions equipped with a harness to fit securely on the table and arm shelves or hammocks that either attach with a bracket or straps under the face cradle.

Why are arm and leg rests must-have accessories for a massage table?

Whether the reason for a specific massage treatment is therapeutic, occupational or for relaxation, one of the most important goals is to provide a comfortable experience for clients. Adding length and width to the massage table is one of the most cost-effective ways to achieve that goal. Leg rests come in multiple forms including stirrup attachments and table extenders that can add 6 to 10 inches of length. Arm extenders can add a minimum of 9 to 10 inches to the table’s width.

While in the prone position, arm rest shelves, slings and hammocks not only give clients designated space to comfortably place their arms, but also give the therapist additional space to work as the client’s arms will not be alongside the body.
